Positive Survival Rates Among Mono-Infected HIV+ Kidney Recipients

A study in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology reports the results of an examination of U.S. HIV+ kidney transplant recipients compared to non-HIV+ recipients from 2002-2011.

The 5- and 10-year graft survival rates were significantly lower among HIV+ recipients when compared to those with no HIV. However, when the mono-infected HIV+ recipient data was separated from those who had both HIV and HCV (hepatitis C virus), the survival rate was comparable to the non-infected recipients.
