The Organ Utilization Network (OUN) is a program developed by The Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance, for the purpose of increasing utilization of increased-risk organs by establishing a network of transplant surgeons who provide peer-to-peer phone support, advice and guidance for fellow colleagues considering the acceptance of an increased-risk organ. This extensive national network offers a safe and non-competitive environment for peer guidance and will help to allay any concerns a surgeon may have in determining whether to accept an increased-risk or marginal liver.
Following an application to participate in the network, access will be granted to a list of surgeons who have agreed to participate in the OUN to offer their experience and guidance to those needing assistance and support.
At this time, this program is only available to liver transplant surgeons and physicians. (Future expansion to other organs is anticipated.)
