From Womb Transplant to Ovarian Tissue and Embryo Freezing

The announcement by a team of Swedish doctors of the first-ever birth of a baby to a woman who had a womb transplant, was welcomed with a standing ovation by a fertility doctors at a recent conference.

Nine women to date have undergone womb transplants, with three live births so far and some ongoing pregnancies, according to Mats Brännström, MD. This procedure will ultimately will be useful only for a small group of women, mainly those who were born without a uterus.
