CMV Protection Predictor in Lung Transplants

Posted by:

A new study describes the goal to identify a specific immunologic signature that predicted protection from cytomegalovirus (CMV) post-transplant. One of the most common infections post- lung transplant is CMV and it is associated with chronic lung allograft dysfunction and worst survival rates.

The team conducting the research, identified and validated a specific T-cell polyfunctional response to CMV antigen stimulation, which they felt is a clinically useful prediction of CMV risk. Using this diagnostic approach could help to inform the optimal duration of individual prophylaxis.
